A New Year

Wow, a new year… 2007 is already here! I think it’s an appropriate time to come up with a prayer request list of what I’d really hope for every member for this new year: —I pray for good health for each member this year…that you might continue to have the physical giftings that allow you to enjoy the fellowship, vibrant exercise, and fellowship of a good workout amongst your fellow karateka. —I pray that you might overcome the inevitable frustrations, interruptions, and distractions that come in life, to be able to invest a portion of your week to learning and sharing the way/path of karate-do with others. —I pray that we never take for granted, the blessings and opportunity of having such a wonderful place in which to conduct the ministry sessions, as well as the nice group of folks who have been called to our group. —I pray that each of us might have the discernment and patience to learn the unique lessons of life, or universal principles that can be gleaned from meaningful practice. —I pray that each of you approach the practice of karate-do in a balanced way: 1) that you seek self-improvement through all of the [...]

Thanks for a Great Christmas Party

Just a short note to say what a great Christmas party we enjoyed today! The weather was perfect… sunny, cool, with a nice breeze that, at times, had much “gusto”. The foods and desserts that everyone brought filled two tables with a diverse and tasty selection for lunch. Thanks to sempais Wes and Donna, we were able to enjoy the beautiful covered Rec Center at the Ridge in Launani Valley, complete with gas grills, kitchen and ice box, tables, benches, lounge chairs, and a nice pool and Jacuzzi that the kids made full use of. Sensei Trisha and sempai Donna did a great job of planning and organizing the event, as well as leading all of the many fun games that occupied all of us, literally, for hours!… it was almost as exciting and as energetic as karate training. We were constantly on our toes, trying to answer to and call others by their designated Christmas names for the day… my name for the day, was an appropriate “Prancer”, though not as much fun as Mr. Shiroma going by the tag of “Vixen” throughout the festivities.
