{"id":2940,"date":"2022-09-14T13:04:07","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T23:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hiskarate.com\/?p=2940"},"modified":"2022-09-14T13:04:22","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T23:04:22","slug":"my-first-exposure-to-karate-watching-an-examination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hiskarate.com\/?p=2940","title":{"rendered":"My First Exposure to Karate &#8211; Watching an Examination"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>When I think about it, the first time I ever visited a karate dojo, an examination was being conducted. \u00a0My friend, Dennis, was a black belt in the Karate Association of Hawaii and a member of its best dojo, the University Karate Kai. \u00a0Coincidentally, Dennis was also the reason that Sensei Wayne and Sensei Peter became interested in the art. \u00a0One day at the university, Dennis invited me to join him in watching a UHKK practice session. \u00a0As it turned out, \u201cpractice\u201d was a special examination being given by Sensei Funakoshi for only two white belts. \u00a0Dennis told me that watching the exam was a good way to view karate techniques and see what might be expected of a trainee. \u00a0As I watched the two beginners being tested, I thought to myself, \u201cWow!
